Recovery of 2008 CN1
On 2008 Feb. 2, A. Boattini at Catalina Sky Survey discovered potentially hazardous asteroid 2008 CN1 and was published in MPEC 2008-C28.
On 2010 January 31, ARO made the first recovery observation of 2008 CN1 which had a 3 sigma error of 1666 arc seconds. While still dusk, images were taken in the region of this PHA. Sergio Foglia recovered the near earth object in the first series of images and produced measures and an ephemeris for a second night of confirmation observations. ARO made the last 9 measures over 3 separate nights extending the orbital arc by 28 consecutive days. Recovery observations are published in MPEC 2010-C02.
An animation of the recovery is seen below. Red square = predicted position, fuchsia circle = observed position.
